For winter visits from November to April, with evenings along Jumeirah Beach Residence or Dubai Marina, a convertible car gives you the best part of a supercar trip: the sound, the skyline and the sea breeze. For summer visits from May to October, early mountain drives or airport transfers with large suitcases, a coupe car keeps the cabin cool, the air conditioning efficient and the body stiffer on the road.
Whichever body style you choose, the same rules apply to all luxury cars in the fleet. Driving onto sand is not covered by the insurance, and sand can damage roof mechanisms, undercarriages and low carbon splitters, so stay on paved roads. Nothing about the roof changes the rental terms: basic insurance is included in the daily rate for both, and any damage requires a Police Report.

Most supercar roofs open in 11 to 19 seconds, which is quick enough for a traffic light but not for a motorway. Each roof has its own maximum speed for opening and closing, so slow down before you press the button.

Times and speeds are the manufacturers’ figures. A fabric roof like the Huracan’s insulates less than a fixed roof, which matters in summer heat, while the hard tops of the F8, 296, 720S and Corvette behave much like a coupe when closed.

Dubai weather decides how usable an open car is. The wrong body style for the season takes the fun out of the drive, so check your dates first.
Winter (November to April): the convertible’s season
Winter temperatures are typically mild, in the range of about 15°C to 30°C, which is ideal for driving with the roof down. A convertible lets the V8 or V10 exhaust bounce off the glass towers of Sheikh Zayed Road, and the open roof removes the blind spots of thick supercar pillars, so you see the skyline properly.
Morning fog on the coast is common from November to February and usually clears by mid-morning, and an occasional dust storm can cut visibility sharply.

Summer (May to October): the coupe’s advantage
Summer daytime temperatures often reach 40°C or more with high humidity, so driving with the roof down at midday is uncomfortable and tiring. A coupe keeps the heat out with a fixed roof and thick glass. With an open or fabric roof the air conditioning compressor works harder, and fuel use goes up.
A closed cabin also keeps fine desert dust out when summer sandstorms pass over the emirate. For anyone visiting between May and October, a fixed-roof car is the comfortable choice, and the roof can still come down late in the evening.
Matching the supercar to the road
Dubai offers very different driving settings, from crowded luxury districts to winding mountain roads, and the route should influence the roof choice.
Sheikh Zayed Road and Marina: open-air cruising
For slow cruising in busy, glamorous areas like Dubai Marina, Downtown Dubai or Palm Jumeirah, a convertible is hard to beat. The point of these drives is visibility and sound at low engine speeds, and the slight loss of stiffness is not noticeable in stop-and-go traffic. Dropping the roof turns a normal drive into an occasion, which suits evening trips to restaurants and beach clubs.
Jebel Jais and Hatta: the coupe’s territory
For an early morning drive up the switchbacks of Jebel Jais or through the Hatta mountains, a coupe feels more settled. The fixed roof makes the body stiffer, so steering feedback and stability in the bends are slightly better. Keep to the speed limits, and remember that the round trip adds up: each car has its own daily mileage limit (200–250 km, shown on the car page), and extra kilometres are charged separately.

Ferrari F8 Tributo vs F8 Spider
The Ferrari F8 Tributo and Spider are mid-engine V8 cars with 720 PS from a 3.9-litre twin-turbo engine. The Spider’s retractable hard top folds away in 14 seconds at up to 45 km/h and adds roughly 70 kg over the coupe. Closed, it is almost as insulated as the coupe; open, the V8 is much louder. The Tributo shows its engine under a transparent Lexan cover, a detail the Spider gives up for roof storage. Both versions start from AED 3 090 a day.
Lamborghini Huracan Coupe vs Spyder
The 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 of the Lamborghini Huracan makes 640 PS and sounds best with no roof above it. The Spyder has a fabric soft top that opens or closes in 17 seconds at up to 50 km/h and weighs roughly 100 to 120 kg more than the coupe. In summer the fabric insulates less than the coupe’s fixed roof. For sound the Spyder wins; for hot weather the coupe is easier. Both start from AED 2 990 a day.
Porsche 911: Carrera, Cabriolet and Targa
The Porsche 911 range covers all three body styles: the Carrera, the Carrera GTS Cabriolet with a folding fabric roof, and the 911 Targa. The Targa keeps a fixed roll bar and a retractable roof panel that opens in about 19 seconds with the car stationary, a good middle ground for the transitional months of October and April. The 911 range starts from AED 1 890 a day.
McLaren 720S Spider and 750S Spider
The carbon-fibre tub of the McLaren 720S Spider is so stiff that the open car needs little extra bracing. It is only 49 kg heavier than the coupe and still reaches 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds with 720 PS. The retractable hard top opens or closes in about 11 seconds at up to 50 km/h. The fleet also has the McLaren 750S Spider. The 720S Spider starts from AED 4 990 a day and the 750S Spider from AED 4 990.
Chevrolet Corvette C8: coupe and Convertible
The Chevrolet Corvette C8 is the most affordable way into a mid-engine V8. The coupe and the Convertible start from the same AED 990 a day. The Convertible’s hard top opens or closes in about 16 seconds at up to 48 km/h (30 mph), so you can drop the roof at the first quiet stretch of road.
Bentley Continental and Ferrari Roma
A front-engine grand tourer suits airport transfers better than a mid-engine supercar, because it offers more usable luggage space. The Bentley Continental coupe rents at AED 2 690 a day and the Continental Convertible at AED 2 690. The Ferrari Roma, a coupe, starts from AED 3 090 a day.
Practical tips for renting in Dubai
Luggage and airport transfers
Supercars have limited luggage space, and on some convertibles the folded roof takes part of the boot, so check the luggage figure on the car page. If you collect the car at the airport with large suitcases, choose a front-engine grand tourer rather than a mid-engine convertible.
Pricing: the roof does not change the rate
