Met Kanat at Square Tower, Artura was already running so no standing around in the heat waiting. Handover took like two minutes, no paperwork drama. Car was black, no scratches anywhere I could see, interior felt tight and clean, like it just came off a detail. V6 pulls hard once you get on it but it doesn't feel harsh, stayed pretty smooth even stuck in traffic on the way back to the hotel.

Why hire the McLaren Artura

The McLaren Artura pairs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor, producing 671 HP and 800 Nm of torque through an 8-speed AMT. At city speeds, it moves between near-silent EV mode and a sharp, mechanical V6 note almost without announcement — purposeful rather than theatrical. The cabin is built around the driver: carbon fibre structural elements reduce weight and sharpen response, while premium leather surfaces and a wraparound cockpit make even a routine commute feel considered. Adaptive suspension reads the road continuously, keeping the car composed on Sheikh Zayed Road without blunting the precision that defines it at every speed.

Practical note

The Artura sits low — ground clearance is approximately 110–120 mm. Dubai speed bumps vary considerably in height, so approach them slowly and at an angle to protect the front splitter and underbody.

Ideal Scenarios for the McLaren Artura in Dubai

Business arrival at DXB or DWC

The Artura makes its presence felt the moment you leave the terminal. Storage is purposefully sized — the front trunk holds approximately 160 litres, suited to a soft holdall rather than a rigid suitcase. One bag per passenger, no checked luggage.

Evening drives along Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown

EV mode keeps things quiet through slow city traffic. When the lanes open up, the hybrid powertrain delivers instant, seamless acceleration — and the 3-second 0–100 km/h figure moves from the spec sheet into something you actually feel.

Premium content and photography

The Artura’s low, sculpted silhouette reads exceptionally well against Dubai’s skyline. Meydan Bridge — the wave-shaped blue structure — is a standout location after 23:00, when traffic drops and the lighting is clean.

Day trips to Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah

The mountain road to Jebel Jais offers the finest driving tarmac in the UAE: well-paved, sweeping bends with real elevation change. The Artura’s adaptive chassis handles the terrain with composure, and the V6 soundtrack at altitude rewards the drive without demanding excessive speed.

Speed buffer tip

Dubai enforces a 20 km/h tolerance above posted limits. Abu Dhabi does not — the tolerance is zero. Worth keeping in mind when you cross the emirate boundary.

McLaren Artura vs. the Competition

The Artura’s clearest advantage over the Lamborghini Huracán is the hybrid powertrain. In EV mode it moves through city traffic in near-silence — something a naturally aspirated V10 simply cannot offer. The carbon fibre MCLA monocoque holds kerb weight to 1,498 kg, which you notice immediately through direction changes: the car responds, rather than reacts.

Against the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the Artura is the more driver-focused choice. The 911 Turbo S is quicker in a straight line and offers the confidence of all-wheel drive, but the McLaren’s mid-engine layout and rear-wheel drive deliver a more involving, communicative experience. If engagement matters as much as outright pace, the Artura is the clearer answer. Those looking for something different might explore sports cars elsewhere in the fleet — few match this combination of hybrid efficiency and analogue character.
