Car Rental Without a Deposit in Dubai: How It Works and What to Check

At Brook Drive there is no security deposit on any car in the fleet — no cash deposit and no card hold — on all 372 cars currently in the feed, from AED 390 a day to AED 11,990 a day. That applies at every price level, from the cheapest hatchback to the most expensive supercar, and for rentals of any length.

How a car rental deposit normally works in Dubai

Why deposits are charged and collected

Most car rental companies in Dubai ask for a security deposit before they hand over the keys. According to a Khaleej Times legal column published in April 2025, charging a deposit is general market practice in the UAE: it acts as a financial safeguard for the rental company against costs that might surface during or after the rental, such as traffic violations, Salik toll charges, minor vehicle damage, fuel discrepancies and administrative fees.

You are rarely asked to hand over cash. Gulf News reported in December 2025 that most companies place a temporary block, a pre-authorisation hold, on the renter’s credit card instead of taking the money outright. The deposit amount itself is not standardised: Gulf News states plainly that it varies by company and by vehicle type, and no published source sets a typical figure for the Dubai market, so any number quoted by a single company should not be treated as a market norm.

The 2024 deposit regulation

There is a regulator behind this. In March 2024, the Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, which operates under the Department of Economy and Tourism, issued Circular No. (1) of 2024 covering security deposits at car rental offices. Reported by Khaleej Times, the circular requires every rental office in Dubai to release the deposit within 30 days of the vehicle being returned, provided there are no outstanding charges. It also states that a rental office may never process a card security hold as an outright charge on the card, that companies without a credit card from the renter must take cash or a debit card instead and refund it by cash or bank transfer at their own cost, and that no surcharge may be charged simply for paying by card.

Thirty days is a maximum, not a normal wait. Gulf News notes that companies often hold the money until fines are posted against the vehicle, which the newspaper describes as something that «can take several weeks.» This is exactly why a deposit that is not returned can feel like it has vanished, even though nothing was technically wrong. If you want the full picture of how long a deposit refund usually takes and what to do if a company misses the deadline, that is covered in our separate guide on deposit refund timeframes rather than repeated here.

Helpful tip

Before you pay anything, ask the company one direct question: is this amount being blocked on my card, or is it being charged? Under Circular No. (1) of 2024, a rental office is not allowed to process a security hold as an outright charge.

What no deposit actually means at Brook Drive

Included insurance and the excess

At Brook Drive, none of the steps above happen. There is no cash deposit, no credit-card hold, no pre-authorisation and no blocked funds on any of the 372 cars in the fleet, whatever the price or the rental length. Basic insurance is included in the daily rate on every car, so you are covered from the moment you drive off.

That insurance carries an excess, the amount the renter would be liable for if at fault in an incident. The exact figure depends on the model and is fixed in the rental agreement; it is confirmed by the Brook Drive team when you book, and it is not published here because it varies car by car. If you are not at fault, you pay nothing. Extended insurance is also available, again at a price the team quotes at booking rather than a fixed public figure.

What gets billed separately

What is not included in the daily rate is billed separately, after the fact, rather than blocked in advance: Salik toll charges, Darb toll charges if you drive into Abu Dhabi, fuel on a full-to-full basis, traffic fines that come through after you return the car, and any mileage above that specific car’s daily limit, which runs from 200 to 250 kilometres a day depending on the model and is shown on the car’s own page. Delivery has its own pricing, covered in the section on getting the car below. None of this changes the core fact: nothing is blocked on your card while you are driving.

Renting with a deposit versus renting with Brook Drive, from the renter’s side
What happens Typical deposit-based rental in Dubai Brook Drive, no deposit
Money on your card at pickup Blocked as a pre-authorisation hold; the amount varies by company and vehicle type (Gulf News, December 2025) Nothing is blocked at all
How the deposit is usually collected Card hold by default; cash or debit accepted if you have no credit card (Khaleej Times, March 2024) No deposit is collected in any form
When you get your money back Released within a maximum of 30 days if there are no outstanding charges (Circular No. 1 of 2024, via Khaleej Times, March 2024) Nothing to release, because nothing was taken
What can reduce the amount you get back Actual traffic fines, damage costs and administrative fees may be deducted (Khaleej Times, April 2025) Charges are billed to you separately, after the rental, not deducted from anything
Surcharge for paying by card Banned under the same circular, but worth checking (Khaleej Times, March 2024) Not applicable, since there is no deposit transaction to surcharge
If you are at fault for damage Amount is deducted from the deposit, with the balance refunded later The insurance excess applies, fixed in your contract and confirmed at booking

Paying without a credit card

Brook Drive accepts cash, cards, cryptocurrency and other methods. A credit card is not required to rent from us, because we do not need a card to block funds against in the first place. If you are travelling with only a debit card or you prefer to pay in cash, that is not a problem here the way it can be with a deposit-based rental.

What to check before you sign a no deposit offer in Dubai

Questions to ask any rental company

«No deposit» is a genuine reassurance, but it is worth asking any company, including us, a short set of questions before you sign anything. None of this is about naming names; it is about knowing what you are agreeing to.

Is the no-deposit rule for the whole fleet, or only for the cheapest cars? Some offers apply only to entry-level vehicles and quietly reintroduce a hold for anything above a certain price. Is a card hold taken anyway, «just in case,» even if the listing says no deposit? A genuine no-deposit policy means nothing is blocked, full stop. What is the insurance excess, and where is it written down? It should be a specific figure in your contract, not a vague verbal promise, and the company should be able to point to the clause when you ask.

Tolls, mileage and damage checks

How are tolls and fines settled, and when? Salik currently charges AED 6.30 per crossing during peak hours (6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm) and AED 4.20 off-peak, with no charge at all between 1am and 6am; these figures already include the 5 percent VAT that Khaleej Times reported was applied to Salik crossings from June 2026. Darb, the Abu Dhabi toll system, charges AED 4 per transaction during its own morning and evening windows, and its daily and monthly caps have been removed according to the official Abu Dhabi Mobility site, so there is no ceiling on how much a heavy user of Abu Dhabi’s toll gates can be charged in a month. Our own guide to toll road costs in Dubai goes into more detail if you want it. A traffic fine, meanwhile, is registered against the vehicle rather than against you personally, so the rental company receives it first and then invoices the renter; if the fine carries black points, transferring them to the actual driver’s licence is something you would need to raise with Dubai Police or the RTA, as described in a Khaleej Times legal column from June 2024. Our article on paying a traffic fine in Dubai covers the practical steps.

What is the mileage limit, and where is it shown? It should be listed on the specific car’s page, not buried in a company-wide FAQ. What is the fuel policy? A full-to-full arrangement, where you collect the car full and return it full, is standard and fair; be wary of vague per-litre «shortfall» language. What happens if the car is damaged, including damage that shows up while the car was parked and nobody was driving it? A police report should be required in both cases, because without one most insurance simply will not respond; our guide on what to do if you scratched a rental car walks through that process. Finally, ask about cancellation terms and what happens if you return the car late, since these are the two situations most likely to generate a surprise charge regardless of whether a deposit was ever involved.

The affordable end of the no deposit fleet

Entry-level pricing at Brook Drive

The rule holds at the cheapest end of the fleet just as firmly as everywhere else. The entry point is the Fiat Abarth 595 at AED 390 a day for a 1 to 2 day rental, dropping to AED 250 a day once you book it for 30 days or more, and there is no deposit on it. Just above that sit several genuinely useful cars in the AED 490 to 690 range: the Mini Cooper S Convertible at AED 490 a day, the Ford Mustang Convertible Black at AED 490 a day, the Audi Q3 Black at AED 550 a day, the Chevrolet Tahoe Black at AED 590 a day, the Hyundai Staria at AED 590 a day, the Mercedes C200 White at AED 600 a day, and the Mercedes E300 Black and Nissan Patrol Super Safari, both at AED 690 a day. Every one of these carries exactly the same no-deposit policy as the most expensive car in the fleet.

The table below shows how the daily rate moves as the rental gets longer, with one representative car from each of the main classes so you can see how the shape of the discount differs by category.

Representative rates by class and rental length, AED per day (September 2026 feed)
Class Car 1 to 2 days 3 to 7 days 8 to 29 days 30+ days
Economy Fiat Abarth 595 390 350 300 250
Family SUV Audi Q3 Black 550 500 450 330
Sedan Mercedes C200 White 600 550 500 300
Convertible Mini Cooper S Convertible 490 440 390 290
Electric Mercedes EQS 580 890 790 690 550
Luxury SUV Mercedes GLE450 Black 890 790 690 590
Sports and supercar BMW M4 Competition 1090 990 890 740
White Mini Cooper S Convertible with the roof up, parked under a covered deck in Dubai

If the entry-level end of the fleet is what you came here for, the full range of everyday cars is easiest to browse through our economy cars selection, where every listing carries the same no-deposit terms described here.

Verdict

the no-deposit rule at Brook Drive is not a promotional hook reserved for the cheapest bookings. It is fleet-wide, from the Fiat Abarth 595 to the cars in the next section.

Luxury and supercar rentals with no deposit

The same policy applies at the top of the fleet. The Range Rover HSE Black rents from AED 1,590 a day, the Mercedes S450 from AED 1,790 a day, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, a flat-six sports car rather than a V8, from AED 1,890 a day, and the Lamborghini Huracan in blue, powered by a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10, from AED 2,990 a day. At the very top of the feed sits the Ferrari Purosangue, a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, from AED 11,990 a day for a short rental. None of these cars carries a security deposit, a card hold or any pre-authorisation, exactly as with the AED 390 Fiat Abarth 595 above. The excess still exists on every one of them, fixed in the contract and confirmed at booking, but there is nothing blocked on your card before you drive away.

To see what the Huracan is like on the road, here is a short independent review rather than footage of our own car.

Monthly rental with no deposit

How monthly savings work

Monthly renters are the group with the most to gain from a genuinely deposit-free policy, since a deposit-based rental would otherwise tie up thousands of dirhams for weeks at a time. The saving on the rate itself is real too, though it varies by car rather than following one fixed percentage.

Take the Mercedes C200 White. Its 1 to 2 day rate is AED 600 a day; at 30 days or more it drops to AED 300 a day. Thirty days at the short rate would cost AED 18,000; the same 30 days at the monthly rate costs AED 9,000, for a saving of AED 9,000, which is exactly 50 percent off the daily rate. The BMW 530 White shows a smaller but still meaningful gap: AED 990 a day short-term against AED 640 a day for 30 days or more, so a month costs AED 19,200 instead of AED 29,700, a saving of AED 10,500, or roughly 35 percent off. Brook Drive states that monthly rates can run up to 50 percent lower than the daily rate, and the Mercedes C200 example above sits right at that ceiling, while the BMW 530 shows that the real figure has to be read from the specific car rather than assumed. Whichever car you choose, the no-deposit policy applies to a 30-day booking exactly as it does to a 1-day booking; nothing changes about the deposit terms as the rental gets longer.

Helpful tip

Do not assume a flat 50 percent saving on any car you like the look of. Check the 1 to 2 day rate and the 30+ day rate on that specific car’s page and do the arithmetic yourself before you commit to a month.

Requirements to rent without a deposit

Age, experience and required documents

Age and driving experience requirements are set per car at Brook Drive, not by one company-wide grid, and they run from 21 to 25 years across the fleet. The Mini Cooper S Convertible and the Nissan Patrol Super Safari both ask for a minimum age of 21 with 3 years of experience. The Fiat Abarth 595, Audi Q3 Black, Chevrolet Tahoe Black and Mercedes E300 Black ask for age 23 with 3 years. The Lamborghini Huracan, Lamborghini Urus, McLaren 750S Spider, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Range Rover HSE Black and Bentley Continental Blue ask for age 25 with 5 years. It is worth being honest that this does not track engine power in a simple way: the Mercedes C200, with 184 HP, requires age 25, while the 280 HP Nissan Patrol Super Safari asks only for age 21, and the 725 HP Ferrari Purosangue requires age 25 but only 3 years of experience. The reliable way to check is the individual car’s own page, not a general assumption about how powerful it looks.

Tourists need a passport, their home-country driving licence and an International Driving Permit. UAE residents need a UAE driving licence and their Emirates ID, and UAE Pass may be accepted as well. Our full breakdown is at required documents for car rental in Dubai if you want to prepare everything in advance. Whatever the car, the minimum rental is one day; there is no hourly rental at Brook Drive.

Alex Shvarov
Helpful tip

Do not rely on a car’s horsepower figure to guess the age or experience requirement. Check the specific car’s page, since the pattern across the fleet is not consistent.

Getting the car in Dubai

The Brook Drive office is in JVC, at Square Tower, office 307, open 24/7, and handover typically takes about 20 minutes once your documents are checked. If you would rather not come to the office, delivery within Dubai is free for rentals from AED 10,000 and otherwise costs AED 185 between 09:00 and 21:00 or AED 235 between 21:00 and 09:00, plus 5 percent VAT. Delivery to Dubai International Airport starts from AED 250, which is useful for anyone flying in and wanting the car waiting at the terminal rather than making their own way across the city first. Our guide to picking a car up at DXB covers that route in more detail.

Frequently asked questions about no deposit car rental in Dubai

How does a car rental deposit normally work in Dubai?

Most companies place a temporary hold on the renter’s credit card rather than charging the amount outright, to cover potential fines, tolls, fuel discrepancies or damage. Under Circular No. (1) of 2024 from the Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, the money must be released within 30 days of the car being returned if there are no outstanding charges.

Is there really no deposit on any car at Brook Drive, including the supercars?

Yes. Every car in the 372-car feed, from the AED 390 Fiat Abarth 595 to the AED 11,990 Ferrari Purosangue, carries no cash deposit, no card hold and no pre-authorisation, for rentals of any length.

What is charged instead of a deposit?

Salik and Darb toll charges, fuel on a full-to-full basis, traffic fines forwarded after the rental, and mileage above the specific car’s daily limit are all billed separately rather than deducted from a deposit, because there is no deposit to deduct from. The insurance excess, fixed in your contract, still applies if you are at fault in an incident.

Do I need a credit card to rent a car without a deposit?

No. Brook Drive accepts cash, cards and cryptocurrency, and a credit card is not required, because there are no funds to block against in the first place.

What documents do I need to rent a car in Dubai?

Tourists need a passport, their home-country driving licence and an International Driving Permit. UAE residents need a UAE driving licence and Emirates ID, and UAE Pass may be accepted.

What is the minimum rental period?

One day. There is no hourly rental at Brook Drive, whichever car you choose.

How are Salik, Darb and traffic fines settled?

Salik currently costs AED 6.30 per crossing at peak hours and AED 4.20 off-peak, including VAT applied from June 2026. Darb charges AED 4 per transaction in its own peak windows and has no daily or monthly cap. Traffic fines are registered against the vehicle first, then invoiced to the renter after the rental ends; none of these are deducted from a deposit, since Brook Drive does not hold one.

What happens if the car is damaged during the rental?

Any damage, even a scratch discovered while the car was parked and unattended, requires a police report, since the insurance will not respond without one. If you were not at fault, you pay nothing; if you were, the fixed insurance excess in your contract applies.

Can I get a monthly rental with no deposit?

Yes, the no-deposit policy applies to a 30-day rental exactly as it does to a 1-day rental. Monthly rates can run up to 50 percent lower than the short-term daily rate, though the exact saving depends on the car.

What if a deposit is not returned within 30 days by another company?

You can contact the rental company directly, dispute the charge with your bank if the money was charged rather than blocked, or file a complaint with Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism through consumerrights.gov.ae or the hotline +971 600 545555, though this route applies only to Dubai-licensed companies.
